The term "people's currency" is used because the word "renmin" means "people" or "human" in Mandarin Chinese. The term "redback" comes from the currency's distinct red color and is often used in the financial industry. Lastly, "Chinabuck" is a slang term that originated in the United States and is used to refer to the Chinese currency, similar to how the US dollar is often called the "buck".
