V-CJD, or variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, is a rare and fatal neurological disorder caused by abnormal proteins called prions. There are several synonyms for V-CJD, some of which include new variant CJD, nvCJD, and human BSE. The condition was first identified in the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s, and since then, there have been only a few hundred cases worldwide. Symptoms of V-CJD can include neurological deterioration, muscle stiffness, and difficulty with coordination and balance. While there is currently no cure for the disease, early detection and treatment can help manage the symptoms and slow its progression.
