Norwegian rigsdaler (also spelled riksdaler) was the currency of Norway between the 17th and 19th centuries. As time progressed, the name of the currency has gone through a few changes, and today it is known as the Norwegian krone. However, there are a few synonyms for the Norwegian rigsdaler historically. These are speciedaler, ort, and mark. Speciedaler was a silver coin used for trade and payments, and it was equivalent to four rigsdalers. Orts were smaller coins worth ⅛ of a rigsdaler, and marks were even smaller coins worth ⅓ of an ort. These synonyms were commonly used during the time of the Norwegian rigsdaler's existence, but today, they are obsolete.
